Sherri Pinero, Nutritionist
Sherri is our nutrition expert responsible
for Cool Fuel menu and recipe development. Unfortunately
for us, she lives in California, but thanks to the world
wide web, she’s only as far away as our nearest computer
or telephone. Sherri is integral to our mission at Cool
Fuel to help influence positive change in today’s
lunchtime meals for school children. As you will notice
by reading her bio, she leads a very busy professional life,

Sherri Pinero earned her degree in nutrition
from the University of Georgia before going on to complete
her dietetic internship at Cal Poly, Pomona in California.
Sherri has an extensive clinical nutrition background, treating
patients with a variety of medical conditions including,
diabetes, hypertension, heart disease, kidney and liver
disease, high-risk pregnancy, sleep apnea, osteoporosis,
obesity, gastro-intestinal disorders, immune deficiency
diseases and food allergies.
The food service industry is well known
to Sherri. In 2000, Sherri founded her company Recipe Analysis
in order to help restaurant owners and chefs improve the
taste, texture, and nutrition of select menu items for both
adults and children. Sherri has also co-authored books,
created Nutrition Facts Labels for food products and publications,
analyzed recipes for restaurants and food service organizations
and consulted the industry on various health and diet related
issues.
Sherri is a member of the California Restaurant
Association, the American Dietetic Association, and the
California Dietetic Association.
Dawn Newman Carlson, Ph.D.,
Behavioral Psychology
Dr. Carlson is a huge asset to the Cool
Fuel team, she brings real-world health advice and direction
to our concept. Her extensive backround in Pediatric Health
Psychology and her personal exercise and physical regimens
coupled with her competitive success on a professional level
provide a perfect fit to our Cool Fuel Board. She brings
such a positive and contagious vibe to our company, we couldn’t
imagine doing this without her.
Dr. Carlson is the President of Carlson
Health Promotion, P.A, and a licensed psychologist specializing
in lifestyle counseling, behavioral medicine, and medical
regimen adherence. She has been practicing and consulting
in the arena of health promotion and disease prevention
for over 10 years. Dr. Carlson is a consultant to hospitals,
medical practices, pharmaceutical companies, athletic teams,
educational institutions and the community at large.
Dr. Carlson earned a Doctorate in Counseling
Psychology at the University of Georgia and a master’s
degree in Counseling from the University of Miami. She completed
her clinical residency at the Medical College of Georgia
and her postdoctoral fellowship in Pediatric Health Psychology
at the University of Florida.
Recognizing the complexities and stressors
of today’s world, Dr. Carlson works with children,
adolescents, adults, and families to create lifestyles that
promote health, wellness, success, and increase quality
of life. She specializes in addressing the behavioral, cognitive,
emotional, and performance needs of her clientele, as well
as increasing their motivation levels.
Dr. Carlson’s strong interest in
behavioral health has led her to develop and administer
numerous programs focusing on the mind-body connection including
the psychology of sport and performance enhancement, behavioral
medicine, adherence and compliance to exercise and nutrition
regimens, and overall adjustment to life stressors or transitions.
Dr. Carlson’s focus on health promotion
and disease prevention is a composite of her personal lifestyle
regimen of nutrition and exercise. She enjoys running, biking,
swimming, and weight training. A former nationally ranked
elite gymnast, she presently competes in triathlons and
running races. She prides herself in her ability to integrate
her personal and professional knowledge in an effort to
inspire and motivate others.
Dr. Carlson’s research, publications
and national presentations are focused on clinical health
and pediatric psychology, sport psychology, medical regimen
adherence, behavioral aspects of diabetes and interventions
for childhood bullies and victims.
Erik R. Carlson, M.D., Cardiologist
When we initially thought Cool Fuel might
have it’s place in the school lunch line, it was Erik’s
advice to really give-it-a-go. With the rise in childhood
obesity and it’s link to type 2 diabetes, this seemed
like a natural way to bring better choices to parents of
the school aged set.
Dr. Carlson received his master’s
degree in biology from Georgia State University in 1996
and his doctorate in cardiology from the Medical College
of Georgia in 2000. From 2004 to present, Dr. Carlson has
practiced as a Cardiovascular Disease Fellow at Shands Hospital
is Jacksonville, FL.
Over the course of his career, Dr. Carlson
has published several articles on a variety of internal
medicine-related issues. He has been a contributor to the
American Journal of Cardiology and the esteem regional periodical,
Northeast Florida Medicine.
Just this year, Dr. Carlson was named
the Edward Jelks Outstanding Resident of the Year for his
work at Shands Hospital, part of the network of research
facilities connected to the University of Florida. He is
a member of the American Board of Internal Medicine and
the Certification Board of Nuclear Cardiology.
